8 million Enrolled Under the Affordable Care Act

10.7% are Latinos

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced that eight million people enrolled in the Health Insurance Marketplace at the end of the first enrollment period. The final enrollment reporting period spans from October 1, 2013, to March 31, 2014, in which 858,000 Latinos enrolled.

Regardless of the enrollment period, institutions still face the challenge of improving their Hispanic community outreach in a continuous initiative to develop a relationship and increase enrollment. Another important finding was that nearly 2.6 million people signed up in the State Based Marketplaces and over 5.4 million in the Federally-facilitated Marketplace. Also, of those who selected a Marketplace plan, 2.2 million (28 percent) were young adults ages 18 to 34.

Below we share with you the demographics of healthcare enrollees and their ethnicity.
