On Monday September 16, 2013, Marcelo Rodriguez, managing partner at Grupo Parada kicked off the Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration at American Express. Mr. Rodriguez shared his experience as a newly arrived entrepreneur in the United States and his journey to establish the Hispanic Marketing consulting firm Grupo Parada.

“The challenges that you face when you first arrive are also opportunities depending on how you take them,” stated Rodriguez. For him as for many immigrants the biggest challenges upon arrival were language, money, and contacts. Rodriguez explained how he used the little resources he had at hand and created a Language Exchange Group which connected people looking to learn English with people looking to learn Spanish. “I used what I had, this group allowed us to learn the language and it was free”, Rodriguez said.

As business owners and employees we must build a reputation and leverage our network”, he added.
